Free Our Seas and Beyond was sparked by a group of dedicated, ocean-loving friends interested in helping showcase the harm that plastic refuse inflicts on our local beaches and the world at large. Struck by the incredible volume of plastic trash strewn across the sands, they made a commitment to clean their local Hollywood Beach. Deeply interested in art and the importance of art education for children, they sorted and cleaned the trash collected along the shoreline to create meaningful and impactful works of art that bring awareness to the devastating pollution caused by the use of single-use plastics on our oceans, marine life, and ultimately, our health.

Free Our Seas and Beyond’s mission is to harness the universal appeal of art to elicit curiosity about our natural world, connect with the environment, and inspire and educate people to empower them to do their part - however small - to affect change globally; one piece of single-use plastic at a time. By creating attention-grabbing works of art, Free Our Seas strives to highlight how much debris actually ends up in our oceans and on our beaches. 

 

From curating environmental art festivals, to partnering with local schools, Free Our Seas collaborates with like-minded community partners to shine a light on the ugly reality of plastic pollution through art as a vehicle.
